Who’s the Stalker ?

persecutoreThe stalker is a person very sensitive to separation, abandon or rejection. This particular sensitivity can occur in any interpersonal relationships, within the family, in pairs, at work or at school and is accentuated when the so called C.A.I., sudden abandon blow is experimented (M. Lattanzi, 2007).

C. A. I. seems to be the matrix of stalking, it’s the moment that changes the stalkers’ lives forever, as if suddenly they become aware that something is changing in their relationship due to a word, a sentence, a gesture or a simple feeling of rejection or abandon. They describe it as an “emotional tsunami” that will totally change their previous lives. From that moment on, all the previous values, purposes or affections no longer exist.

These people cannot help acting that specific set of behaviours, such as persecutions that they perceive as functional for their health, containing their anxiety and fear. These attitudes, learnt during the earliest relationships and arisen from the acquired mental sets, represent a sort of relational “first aid kit”.

Following the C.A.I. the stalker’s needs change, they cross each other, and become more and more intense in time. They usually arise from the need to test separation and abandon, and then to demonstrate their endless love, trying to persuade the object of their interest, to desist from his/her erroneous purpose, hoping to share emotions, which would be felt anyway, even in a negative way (M. Lattanzi, 2007).

These people, infact, go through devastating emotions that overact and exaggerate many aspects of their lives or feelings, by projecting their incompetences on others. Their behaviours suddenly change, sometimes they feel themselves as a victim, often unconsciously they want to appear as such, whereas they are the authors instead (M. Lattanzi, 2007).

The Alleged Authors Centre – Psycho Behavioural Analysis Unit of the National Stalking Observatory, founded in 2007, offers a free program of re-socialization with a pluralistic integrated approach for both men and women who cannot help but stalking.

The multidisciplinary team, from January 2007 up-to-date, has been using the so called R.A.A.P. program, Re Alleged Authors Program, and applying it to 44 people, 36 men and 8 women. In 30% of the cases it managed to contain most of the persecutions, in 60% of the cases they were significantly reduced, and in 20% of the cases it avoided very dangerous behaviours from happening.

Usually the stalker is an acquaintance, three times out of four he is a man, and often he is an affective manipulator, he is well-integrated into society, and experiments the C.A.I.. Seldom he has a severe psychopathology (lack of contact with reality), seven times out of ten he suffers from a borderline personality disorder. His most experimented feeling is fear.
Over 50% of the stalkers from the sample experimented at least once in their lifetime abandon, separation or mourning from a loved person, which hasn’t been worked out yet.

The borderline personality could explain the behavioural and emotional versatility of the stalker, as in a very short period of time he goes through both complete withdrawal from any relationship and a persistent presence, both very strong persecutions and great kindness, dramatization and lies; moreover, they shift from love to hate and many other behaviours in between, representing their lives and fulfilling their growing needs.
